Behind the numbers

How this calculation works

Start from billable weight for the same zone and service. Round extra weight upward by each carrier’s own block, then apply its entered transport, fuel, COD and tax rules independently.

THE FORMULACharge = (base + ceil(extra weight / block) × increment + fuel on transport + COD + other fee) × (1 + tax)

A worked example

At 2.2 kg with 0.5 kg included and 0.5 kg blocks, four extra blocks are charged. Example carrier B totals 110 transport, 11 fuel and 30 COD before 18% tax, or 178.18 overall.

Good to know

Illustrative entered rate cards, not live quotes. No dimensional-weight calculation, return rules, oversize, remote-zone, insurance or fee refund. Tax applies to the full stated subtotal.

Billable weight belongs upstream

This comparison assumes you already know the billable weight under each relevant service convention and that the entered common weight is appropriate for both cards.

Actual weight and dimensional weight can differ. A cheap tariff is not a useful comparison if one carrier’s dimension rule would produce a different chargeable weight.

Round the weight excess before adding charges

The first-weight charge covers the included weight. Any positive remainder is divided by the extra-block size and rounded upward, including a partially used final block.

The cards can have different block sizes and prices, so compare their complete charges. Averaging a per-kilogram rate would erase the steps where one becomes more expensive than the other.

Fee bases are explicit

Fuel surcharge applies to transport only. COD is zero for a zero collection amount; otherwise it is the larger of the entered minimum and percentage fee. Other fees are added before tax.

These are supported scenario conventions, not a claim about any named carrier. Match the inputs to an applicable quote and keep unsupported charges or refund conditions outside the comparison.

Use the result with the next measurement

The courier volumetric and billable weight calculator determines chargeable weight under entered dimension and rounding rules. Resolve that basis before comparing the two rate cards here.
