Check your understanding

Can a repeated holiday remove two days?

No. Holiday dates are deduplicated before subtraction.

What happens to a holiday already on a weekend?

It stays excluded once as a weekend, with no additional subtraction.

Behind the numbers

How this calculation works

Choose endpoint inclusion before removing weekends. Deduplicate the supplied holiday list so a repeated holiday or a weekend holiday is never subtracted twice. The date difference calculator answers an elapsed-day question instead.

THE FORMULAWorking days = counted dates − selected weekend dates − distinct counted weekday holidays

A worked example

Monday 5 October through Friday 9 October 2026 contains five weekdays. A supplied holiday on 6 October leaves four working days.

Good to know

No automatic Indian public-holiday feed is assumed. State, bank, employer and part-day schedules differ. Supports up to 1,000 supplied dates; half-days and work-hour totals are excluded.

India does not have one working-day calendar

A private office, a state government office and a bank can follow different working days. State holidays, employer closures and local observances can also differ. A single automatic list would hide those choices.

Choose the weekly days off and supply the dates relevant to your work. The breakdown identifies a holiday already on a weekend, a duplicate and a date outside the counted interval without subtracting an extra day.

The calendar age calculator uses annual anniversaries and month boundaries. A working-day count does not describe an age.

Agree which endpoint dates count

A Monday-to-Friday task can mean five scheduled work dates when both endpoints count, or four elapsed working-day boundaries when Monday is excluded. Neither answer is useful until the endpoint rule is stated.

For 5–9 October 2026 with both dates included, there are five Monday-to-Friday dates. Supply 6 October as a holiday and the total becomes four. Repeating that holiday does not reduce it again.

Use the result as a count of dates

The result does not convert half-day work, flexible hours or overnight shifts into full-time-equivalent days. Keep those in a separate hours calculation, and use actual contractual rules when counting a notice or filing period.

The calendar age calculator decomposes an elapsed interval differently. For an ordinary interval with no weekend exclusions, the date difference calculator gives elapsed days; use this page only when the work schedule is part of the question.

A few questions, answered

Are Indian bank holidays included automatically?

No. Supply the applicable bank and state holiday dates. This avoids presenting an incomplete universal holiday list as authoritative.

Do holidays on weekends count twice?

No. A supplied holiday is subtracted only once and only if it would otherwise be a counted working day.

Can I count a six-day workweek?

Yes. Choose Sunday only as the weekly day off and add the relevant holiday dates. Saturday then counts unless it is explicitly supplied as a holiday.
